Kyla Serres Research Assistant

Biographical sketch

Kyla holds a master’s degree in eco-epidemiology from the University of Montpellier, specialising in parasitic and infectious disease management and surveillance. For her master’s thesis, she investigated the role of climate change in the emergence of the Chikungunya virus in Europe. This research sparked her interest in arboviruses, leading her to continue her work at the SpELL as a research assistant, focusing on modelling the risk of human exposure to vector-borne diseases in Europe.

Kyla is dedicated to studying the emergence of infectious diseases by adopting a holistic approach that thoroughly examines the climatic and environmental factors contributing to their dynamics. She now aspires to pursue a PhD to further understand the environmental factors driving the emergence and circulation of the dengue virus in Europe, using spatial and molecular epidemiological techniques that she will learn at the SpELL.
